Tanking a Cellar
Basement Waterproofing Systems
Here at Kenwood Damp Proofing PLC we have many years of experience when it comes to working in cellars and basements below ground level to ensure that they are dry, warm and damp proof.
We have developed three main systems and our qualified surveyors will recommend the most suitable one for your situation, depending on the structure of your building and the type of ground on which it is built, be it clay, chalk, sandy soil or any of the many geological variations that are common in South East England.
Kenwood SWS Tanking System
Our Structural Waterproofing System involves the removal of the existing plaster and wall coverings using breakers, mechanical surface scarifiers and needle gunning to remove latent coatings and to provide a sound substrate the receive the waterproofing system. We then prepare the masonry and apply Kenwood SWS multi-coat tanking by using a brush, a low pressure spray or a trowel, depending on the particular project and substrate.
If necessary we include a new waterproof floor screed - Kenwood SWS is ideal for use on basement rooms, cellars and below-ground accommodation.
We finish off by plastering, using the Kenwood waterproof rendering system and skim with plaster ready for painting or papering.
Kenwood Rapid Set Tanking System
This system has been specifically designed for use in under street vaults. Once we've removed the entire surface covering from the walls, ceilings and floor, we apply Kenwood Rapid, which is a high strength, fast setting and curing concrete, which consists of cements, binders and dried aggregates.
It has excellent resistance to water and sulphates and is particularly effective on crumbly substrates. One of the great advantages is that it will set even under water, and so we can guarantee complete curing even in exceptionally damp conditions.
Cavity Drain Membrane in Luton
This is where we fix a studded membrane to the substrate and incorporate drainage channels and gulleys to discharge any incoming water into a sump. A pump then removes the accumulated water from behind the membrane, preventing flooding.
The membrane is heat welded to ensure it is waterproof and then creates a dry "envelope" which is covered with an independent plaster frame which takes skim and normal internal decoration.
